Window XP Emulator approved by Apple for Vision Pro

Apple has officially approved “UTM SE,” a free PC emulator, for the App Store, making it available on iPhone, Ipad, and vision Pro. This app enables users to emulate older versions of windows, mac OS, Linux, and more, allowing them to run classic software and games on their Apple Devices.

As the first emulator of its kind on the App Store, UTM SE includes unique features such as VGA mode for graphics support systems, emulation of x86, PPC, and RISC-V architectures, pre-built machine options, and the ability to create custom bootable machines.

Initially rejected by Apple in June, UTM SE’s approval follows a change in App Store policy regarding retro game emulators. Apple has cited a violation of rule 4.7 of its App Review Guidelines, stating thar “PC is not a console,”despite the existence of retro Windows/DOS games that the app could run. Additionally, Apple considered UTM SE inappropriate for third- party marketplaces in the EU due to a violation of rule 2.5.2 of its Notarization Review Guideline, which requires apps to be self- contained without exxecuting code that alters their features or functionalities.

After the initial rejection, the UTM development team decided against prolonged negotiations to avoid compromising the app’s Quality. However, with support from the AltStore team and other developers, they made necessary adjustments, leading to UTM S’s approval over the weekend.

Like other emulators, UTM SE requires users to provide their own operating systems for emulation, but the UTM website offers guides for emulating Windows XP through Windows 11, along with links to pre-built virtual Linux machines. UTM SE is now available for download.
