Meta Quest 3S Leak: What It Means For The Industry.

This year has been quite a ride, but it’s not over. One significant launch we’re likely to see very soon is the Meta Quest 3S. This more affordable version of the Quest 3 is rumored to feature the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset in a bulkier, Quest 2-like body, along with a few other downgrades.

Meta has also hinted at its first pair of AR glasses in a blog post earlier this year. However, according to a leaked internal roadmap shared by The Verge in 2023, these AR glasses are not expected to launch until 2027. In the meantime, Meta plans to release precursor smart glasses in 2025 to enhance its AI-powered Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses line.

It’s also quite possible that we might see the much-anticipated Samsung XR/VR headset in 2024. Announced over a year ago in collaboration with Google, the device’s launch has been somewhat silent, with speculation suggesting delays due to reactions to the Apple Vision Pro. We’re hopeful this means it’s still on track for a 2024 release, but only time will tell.

Meta has been pretty quiet about the Quest 3S officially, but two significant leaks have surfaced. First, their CTO accidentally showcased the device in the background of a threads video. Second, the Quest 3S appeared on some Meta Quest store pages as a compatible headset for certain software. These leaks strongly suggest that we’ll see the Quest 3S debut at Meta Connect 2024, scheduled for September 25-26.
